Warm Tea Reads

I love reading all kinds of books, and this is the place where I share my thoughts on what I have read.
SPOILER ALERT!

Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

Anna and the French Kiss - Stephanie Perkins

**A quote from the book at the end of the review**

Short Review;

Wow!! This was such an amazing read, simple plot but so wonderfully written and the characters are believable and relatable. A definite MUST READ.

Long Review;

Anna and the French Kiss is about a girl Anna she is about to start her senior year at school in Atlanta when she gets shipped off to boarding school in Paris, she spends a while waiting and wishing to go back home to her best friend, family and co-worker.

While in Paris she becomes friends with St.Clair, who she gets to know and becomes really close with. Loads happens in between - I can't write much without spoiling it!!

I found this book wonderfully written, and while it was a fairly simple plot it was interesting and engaging, and had me hooked right from the first chapter.

I loved Anna she was quirky, funny and witty, St.Clair was funny, charming and clever, and both characters were completely relatable.

Definitely a must read!

A quote I absolutely love;

The grapes are smaller than I'm used to, and the skin is slightly textured. Is that dirt? I dip my nakin in water and dab at the tiny purple globes. It helps, but they're still sort of rough. Hmm. St. Clair and Meredith stop talking. I glance up to find them staring at me in matching bemusement.

"what?"

"Nothing," he says. "Continue your grape bath"

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

The Book Thief - Markus Zusak

Short Review;

I really love Markus Zusak's writing there is something so special about it and it just flows so amazingly.

I was really looking forward to this book as I had heard so many great things about it and his other book The Messenger is one of my all time favorite books ever. However The Book Thief just didnt grab me.

Long Review;

The Book Thief is narrated by Death's point of view, and is set in 1939 Germany, we follow a foster girl called Liesel Meminger living outside Munich who steals books when she encounters something she can't resist.

Her accordian playing foster father teaches her how to read and write and shares those stolen books with her neighbors and the Jewish man hiding in her basement.

I really loved the writing style, and the story line was good, there's absolutely nothing wrong with this book, but it didn't grab my attention or have me hooked, I think I was expecting a lot more having read other book lovers reviews and I don't feel it was really my thing.

If you haven't read a Markus Zusak novel, read The Messenger!! It had me hooked from page 7.

SPOILER ALERT!

Dark Heart Rising (Dark Heart #2) by Lee Monroe

Dark Heart Rising - Lee Monroe

Possible spoilers as its book 2!

Short Review;

After reading Dark Heart Forever and not being overly impressed I thought I would give book 2 ago because I had already bought it (super cheap online), but really wasn't impressed, not much is different from book 1 and it feels like it drags on a bit.

Long Review;

I was really hoping in book 2 the story would pick up but was disappointed, in book 2 Dark Heart Rising, Jane heads to see her grandma before heading to collage, at her grandma's she meets a new boy and straight away it feels like the whole Evan drama all over again.

I don't feel like the world or characters really develop much at all, and there are multiple spelling errors but the thing that annoyed me the most was that the point of view changes every few chapters, between someone on Nissilum and Jane, I don't really think it worked that well or was necessary for this story, I defiantly feel I would have enjoyed this a lot more if it had just been in Jane's POV like in Book 1.

Dark Heart Forever (Dark Heart #1) by Lee Monroe

Dark Heart Forever - Lee Monroe

Short Review;

This book was alright, there wasn't anything that wowed me, I feel like I may have enjoyed it more if I had of read it when I was a bit younger.

Long Review;

I got the Dark Heart trilogy for super cheap online, it sounded quite good so I thought I'd pick it up while it was so cheap.

Dark Heart Forever is about a teenage girl called Jane she is home schooled because she was bullied fairly bad at school, she's a bit of a loner and doesn't really trust anyone outside her family. She keeps sleep walking and having dreams about a boy.

There's another dimension with the world called Nissilum which is a world where all supernatural beings live together being over looked by the angels making sure they all live in harmony, and you can only cross between the 2 places if you have a connection with someone that is there.

I really liked the world Nissilum I have not read anything where a worlds in a different dimension, but other then that there wasn't much that sets this book apart from any other supernatural love triangle book.

I would recommend this to younger readers however as it would probably be a good book to read to see if you like the supernatural type things.

Earthbound (Earthbound #1) by Aprilynne Pike

Earthbound - Aprilynne Pike

Short Review;

I was really surprised at how intense and suspensful this was, it was such a fun read, I did not move once from start to finish I HAD to keep turning the pages!!

It's full of action, romance and a betrayal I NEVER saw coming!

Long Review:

This is the first book I have read from Aprilynne Pike and wasn't sure what to expect but can say I was amazingly surprised, it delivered on everything with the exception of a couple of parts that dragged a little.

Basically it's about a teenage girl called Tavia, she is the sole survivor of a plane crash that killed her parents so she has to live with her step aunt and uncle.

The book is set a couple of years on from the crash and Tavia has been through multiple surgeries and lots of therapy, and keeps having visions of a boy, this leads Tavia to question if the crash was an accident or not and the only person she can talk to about it is her best friend Benson who is a collage student and works at the local library.

There are so many little twists and turns that kept me guessing and turning the pages, and definately a few things I never even saw coming at all. I loved this book and cannot wait for Book 2 Earthquake which is due out July 2014!
